Choosing The Best Insulation For Your Project.

We have all heard that adding insulation to your home can save you money. When it’s time to start your project, how do you know what kind of insulation to pick?

There are several different types of insulation, and the best pick for you depends on the type of project that you are undertaking.

Fiberglass Batts and Blankets-

A lot of people like this type of insulation because it comes in a convenient roll that is easy to install. If you are adding insulation to your attic, you just roll it out, cutting it to shape around pipes and other objects. Johns Manville is a great manufacturer that makes a formaldehyde free fiberglass insulation in a variety of thicknesses and R values. When using fiberglass, make sure to wear long sleeves and gloves. If the fiberglass comes into contact with your skin, it will cause itching and a rash.

Mineral Wool-

Mineral wool batting is a step up from fiberglass. It is commonly used where a fire resistant material is necessary, or during soundproofing. One negative aspect of using this type of insulation is that it easily absorbs water and can harbor mold growth, so it should only be used in areas where it will never get damp. It is often used in condos, apartment buildings, and other shared living spaces where sound and fire control are of extra concern.

Spray Foam –

Spray foam is becoming more and more popular because it is easy to seal every nook and cranny, eliminating all air and water leaks. Since the walls need to be open, it is typically used in new construction, or when finishing a basement or attic. You need a special sprayer to install this type of insulation, so it is often left to the professionals. If you are considering spray foam, take a look at the highly rated Icynene open cell and closed cell spray foam products. They have several types of foams to choose from, depending on the type of project that you are working on.

These are some of the main types of insulation. For more information on the other types of products available, check out www.showroompartners.com
